  • Two teams are ‘nuclear hot’ in potential Maxx Crosby trade.

Trade speculation surrounding Maxx Crosby refuses to die down, and according to recent reports, two NFC powerhouses are emerging as the hottest potential landing spots if the Raiders decide to move their star pass rusher.

NFL insider Hondo Carpenter recently claimed that the Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers are “nuclear hot” in their pursuit of Crosby, suggesting both franchises have significant interest in acquiring the five-time Pro Bowler. (Last Word On Sports)

The 49ers have been repeatedly linked to Crosby throughout the offseason. San Francisco is looking to strengthen its defensive front and create one of the league’s most dangerous pass-rushing duos alongside Nick Bosa. Several reports have suggested the 49ers could be willing to part with premium draft capital and young talent if Crosby becomes available. (Silver And Black Pride)

Meanwhile, the Eagles remain aggressive in their pursuit of elite defensive talent. General manager Howie Roseman has built a reputation for making bold moves, and Philadelphia was previously connected to other star pass rushers before turning its attention toward Crosby. Pairing him with the Eagles’ already formidable defensive line could make one of the NFL’s best defenses even more dominant.

Despite the rumors, the Raiders have not publicly indicated that they are eager to trade Crosby. The organization has consistently stated its desire to keep the franchise cornerstone, although reports suggest the team would listen to offers if the compensation is overwhelming. Earlier this year, a proposed trade involving the Baltimore Ravens reportedly collapsed after concerns surrounding Crosby’s physical examination. (Silver And Black Pride)

For now, Crosby remains one of the faces of the Raiders franchise. However, if Las Vegas struggles during the 2026 season and decides to shift toward a longer-term rebuild, the Eagles and 49ers appear to be positioned at the front of the line for one of the NFL’s premier edge rushers. • Two teams are ‘nuclear hot’ in potential Maxx Crosby trade

The Las Vegas Raiders starred in one of the most bizarre incidents in recent NFL offseason history.

Trading Maxx Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens was a league-altering move, and so was getting him back. The Ravens shut down the deal over alleged concerns about his knee injury. Given that he didn’t want to be traded in the first place, he happily agreed to return … for now.

According to Raiders insider Hondo Carpenter, who broke the news that he would be on the trade block last offseason, this saga might not be over.

The 49ers and Eagles are trying to trade for Maxx Crosby

“I know there are a lot of fans who, after the season, when we talked about it, mocked me, got mad, and even had people threaten me,” Carpenter said on the “Las Vegas Raiders Insider” podcast. “Then, bam, you saw him get traded to Baltimore. Okay, I am telling you there is a lot of interest in Maxx Crosby. Two teams specifically are nuclear hot: the Eagles and the 49ers.”

This checks. The 49ers now have Myles Garrett in the division, and life was already tough with the Seattle Seahawks there. As for the Eagles, they also tried to trade for Garrett, so they now need to do a power move to make up for missing out on the Defensive Player of the Year.

Of course, as Carpenter also pointed out, that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be traded or that the Raiders want to move on from him, but that won’t stop other teams from trying.

And if the Raiders struggle right out of the gate, which is a strong possibility, even with a new quarterback and coaching staff, perhaps they might want to revisit trading Crosby.

For now, the Raiders shouldn’t be in much of a hurry, as Crosby still isn’t back to full strength. They can probably get a more valuable return once other teams watch him play.

  • World Cup 2026 Tuesday takeaways: Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland shine bright on star-studded day

Tuesday’s slate of games includes squads from Groups I and J, which featured several of those stars. It’s safe to say they didn’t disappoint.

Below, we take a closer look at that and more in our takeaways from the games.

Argentina forward Lionel Messi isn’t running on fumes

Messi, who turns 39 on June 24, may be playing in his last World Cup. If his record sixth dance at the tournament is his last, he’s giving it a chance to be the best one.

Messi, an eight-time Ballon d’Or winner as the best soccer player in the world, earned his first hat trick at the World Cup in a 3-0 Group J win over Algeria at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. He’s now tied with former German star Miroslav Klose for the most goals (16) in World Cup history. The accomplishment drew praise from Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and other sports stars on social media.

FIFA WORLD CUP HAT TRICK FOR MESSI!

Entering the tournament, several questions surrounded Messi’s health. Many wondered if a left hamstring injury he battled throughout his club season with MLS outfit Inter Miami would hamper him.

It doesn’t appear to be doing so. That’s good news for Argentina, which is aiming to repeat as World Cup champions. Messi being the driving force in these efforts would be the potential swansong for his career. Tuesday’s performance could be the beginning of that.

French forward Kylian Mbappe received a needed PR boost in World Cup opener

Mbappe needs a stellar World Cup to salvage his reputation, which has continued to take hits since he joined Spanish club Real Madrid in July 2024. A petition to oust him at Real Madrid reached 30 million signatures in May.

In a recent story with French newspaper Le Parisien, Mbappe joked he would never run for president of his country because “I am hated enough as it is.” Who’s saying he would win an election if he did run for political office?

Kidding aside, Mbappe’s approval rating will improve significantly if he keeps excelling as he did Tuesday. He scored two goals in a 3-1 Group I win over Senegal at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, becoming France’s all-time leading goalscorer in the World Cup (14).

Mbappe, 27, remains a polarizing figure, but Tuesday’s performance reminded fans he’s one of the best players in the tournament, perhaps even the best.

Outside of Kylian Mbappe’s heroics, France’s World Cup opener was underwhelming

Mbappe’s virtuoso performance overshadowed France’s sloppy first half. Per ESPN, Les Bleus’ expected goal rate after the first half was abysmal at 0.02. Fox analyst/former American star Landon Donovan chided the side for its lack of effort in the first half.

“France, arrogant, a little casual, just sort of going through motions,” Donovan said before halftime during the broadcast (h/t Awful Announcing Brendon Kleen).

Perhaps France thought it was just a much better team. FIFA ranks the squad No. 2 in the world. However, it can’t keep underestimating its competition for the rest of the tournament.

If it does, it could have another lackadaisical start. And if Mbappe doesn’t save the team, that could spell trouble.

    Let’s treat Norway more seriously

Norway hasn’t played in the World Cup since 1998. The side made it worth the long wait for Scandinavian fans on Tuesday.

Led by striker Erling Haaland, who scored two goals, Norway dismantled Iraq 4-1 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Sure, beating a team ranked No. 60 by FIFA will impress few. That said, Tuesday shows when Norway plays at its best, it’s one of the toughest outs in the tournament, making it a dark horse.

Plus, Haaland stars for the country. While he may not be as high-profile as Messi or Mbappe, he’s clearly of a similar skill level. Players on or close to that tier can take a team a long way in the World Cup.

  • Golden Knights will not retain John Tortorella

After guiding the team to its third Stanley Cup Final, the Vegas Golden Knights are moving on from their head coach.

According to a team announcement, the Golden Knights will not retain John Tortorella as head coach, and will be looking for their third of the calendar year.

Vegas couldn’t have asked for much more from the 67-year-old coach. After taking over for Bruce Cassidy with eight games remaining in the regular season, the Golden Knights won nearly all of them, closing out the regular season with a 7-0-1 record, capturing the Pacific Division crown.

Despite the better performance, the Golden Knights didn’t enter the playoffs as a true threat for the Stanley Cup. Many analysts predicted that Vegas would fall short against a stronger Central Division opponent, with some theorizing that they might be dispatched by the Utah Mammoth as early as Round 1.

    — Vegas Golden Knights (@GoldenKnights) June 16, 2026

Obviously, that’s not how things shook out. Under Tortorella’s stewardship, the Golden Knights took out the Mammoth (with two overtime games) and the Anaheim Ducks relatively easily. However, their easiest series of the postseason shockingly came in the Western Conference Final, when the Golden Knights knocked off the Presidents’ Trophy-winning Colorado Avalanche in a four-game sweep. Unfortunately, after taking a lead in the series after Game 3, their postseason came to an end at the hands of the Carolina Hurricanes in the Stanley Cup Final.

It’s hard to determine whose decision this was. Before joining the Golden Knights at the end of the season, Tortorella was essentially retired from coaching except for a tenure in the international circuit. Given that his coaching career began back in the 1989-90 season, Tortorella may have just wanted one last run at things before retiring for good.

Additionally, it’s even harder to imagine Tortorella, especially at his age, joining the two available options. Currently, outside of Vegas, the only two teams without a head coach for the 2026-27 campaign are the Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs. Given his combativeness with the media throughout his coaching career, it wouldn’t make a lot of sense for him to take over behind the bench for a team with a feisty media environment.

Still, the 2026 Stanley Cup playoffs showed that Tortorella has some fuel left in the tank. If there is another coaching dismissal this offseason, Tortorella would immediately become a candidate, especially for a team on the fringe of postseason contention.

  • George Pickens gives massive update on Cowboys future after worrisome rumor

A Tuesday report said that Dallas Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens “is not pleased about the team’s handling of his contract” and only reported to mandatory minicamp this week “to avoid financial penalties.”

That, along with the fact that Pickens won’t take part in team drills during mandatory minicamp, could lead one to believe he may cause problems for the Cowboys later this summer. It appears that won’t be the case.

Could George Pickens hold out after signing franchise tag?

As Pro Football Talk’s Charean Williams and Jon Machota of The Athletic shared, Pickens confirmed on Tuesday that he won’t hold out.

“It’s football first, you see what I mean? So definitely play football first, kind of like I did last year, and then worry about, well, let my agent worry about [contract] talk[s],” Pickens said about his mindset.

While Pickens signed the franchise tag worth roughly $27.3M for the 2026 season earlier this spring, he stayed away from the Cowboys throughout the voluntary portion of the offseason program after it was revealed that he would not be receiving a multiyear contract extension from the club before the July 15 deadline for teams to sign tagged players to such deals arrived.

On Tuesday, Pickens said that agent David Mulugheta advised him not to participate in voluntary workouts. However, Pickens also said he will report for training-camp practices in late July.

George Pickens says this is what’s important to him amid questions about his contract

“What’s important to me is winning,” Pickens added. “Like I said from the beginning, I always wanna bring a Super Bowl to a group of guys that never had that feeling. That’s really the most important part to me.”

Pickens’ latest comments suggest that he plans to play on the franchise tag through the upcoming season before he and the Cowboys evaluate their options. On Tuesday morning, NFL insider Jason La Canfora of SportsBoom US noted that “there is concern within Pickens’ camp that he could be franchise-tagged again in 2027.”

That concern apparently won’t prevent Pickens from playing for the Cowboys when they open the 2026 regular season with a “Sunday Night Football” matchup at the rival New York Giants on Sept. 13.

Rafael Nadal Has Released the Following Statements Regarding His Future

Tennis legend Rafael Nadal has officially released a heartfelt statement addressing his current situation, bringing clarity to fans around the world who have been anxiously awaiting updates on his future. The Spanish icon, widely regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of the sport, spoke openly about his physical condition, recent challenges, and the difficult decisions he has been forced to make.

In his statement, Nadal confirmed that ongoing physical setbacks have continued to limit his ability to compete at the level he expects of himself. After months of intense rehabilitation, medical consultations, and careful reflection, the 22-time Grand Slam champion admitted that his body has not responded in the way he had hoped. As a result, he announced that he must step away from competitive tennis for now to focus fully on recovery.

“This is not an easy moment for me,” Nadal shared. “Anyone who knows me understands how much I love this sport and how hard it is to stop when my desire to compete is still strong. But I must listen to my body and make the right decision for my long-term health.”

Nadal emphasized that the choice was made after long discussions with his medical team and family. He explained that pushing himself further without proper recovery could risk permanent damage, something he is unwilling to gamble with after such a long and demanding career. While the announcement was expected by some, it still came as an emotional blow to fans who have followed his journey for nearly two decades.

Despite the uncertainty, Nadal’s message was not without hope. He made it clear that this pause does not represent a farewell, but rather a necessary step toward a possible return. His primary focus now is rehabilitation, rest, and regaining strength, with the aim of returning to the court in the best condition possible.

“My goal is to come back when I feel truly ready—physically and mentally,” he stated. “I don’t know exactly when that will be, but I will give myself the time I need.”

The tennis world has responded with an outpouring of support, with fellow players, coaches, and fans expressing admiration for Nadal’s honesty and resilience. Many have praised his willingness to prioritize health over pressure, noting that his legacy is already firmly secured regardless of what lies ahead.

As one of the most respected figures in sport, Nadal’s statement serves as a reminder of the physical toll elite competition can take, even on the strongest athletes. For now, the focus shifts from trophies and titles to recovery and reflection.
